WHAT IS FRENCH BALAYAGE?

A beautiful sun-kissed hair colour result. The lightened pieces sculpt the face and jawline to contour the face and bring out your best features. The technique uses contrasting and non-stripy blonde shades to add depth and definition to the hair as well as luminosity for an ultra-natural result.

FAQ

  • IS BALAYAGE RIGHT FOR ME?

Balayage is very low maintenance and can give a new dimension to hair by boosting natural reflects. If you have never had your hair coloured before or you are afraid of a drastic change, balayage is most definitely the best colour technique for you. If you are blonde, brown, or red, have coloured or non- coloured hair, it doesn’t matter, the balayage technique can be tailored to everyone. The choice is really between you and your colourist. Balayage works for all lengths except for very short cropped hair. A balayage is also great for colouring greys because the hairdresser will cover the few grey strands rather than colour the whole head.
  • HOW LONG DOES A BALAYAGE TAKE?

A balayage can take just 45 minutes to apply, but a full appointment can take around 2 hours. We would recommend you speak to your colourist first, as the time depends on your hair texture, condition and the personalised result that you are after. For example, if you have had highlights previously, then it may take longer as your stylist may have to do a reverse balayage to blend a darker root into lighter lengths and ends.
  • HOW LONG DOES A BALAYAGE LAST?

A Balayage grows out beautifully meaning less frequent appointments and maintenance. Like all hair colour, you want to protect it: use a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner, as well as regular treatments and heat protection products when styling. If you take good care of your colour, it will always look its best. Make sure to always talk to your colorist about the upkeep, it’s important to remember that the cut dictates the placement of the colour, so the heavier the colour application the more upkeep will be needed. A balayage can last 8 to 14 weeks, however, to keep your balayage fresh, we would recommend a toning service every 6 weeks to revive its colour and enhance the shine of your balayage.
  • HOW IS A BALAYAGE APPLIED?

Balayage is a freehand technique best done in salon where the colour is applied by hand rather than using professional tools such as traditional foiling, meche or cap highlighting. It refers to the process of visually sweeping colour through the hair using a paddle or balayage board. Some techniques may isolate certain areas with foil where extra lightening is required. Generally, a balayage look will be deeper at the root and seamlessly melt into the lightest areas through the mid lengths and ends.
  • HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR BALAYAGE FROM HOME?

A Balayage grows out beautifully meaning less frequent appointments and maintenance, however like all hair colour, you want to protect it: use a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner, as well as regular treatments and heat protection products when styling. Serie Expert Vitamino Color shampoo & conditioner can protect against colour fading for up to 8 weeks*. As with all blonde or highlighted hair, a purple shampoo can help to neutralise brassy yellow tones and revive colour. *Instrumental test shampoo and conditioner
  • WHAT IS A REVERSE BALAYAGE?

If you already have blonde hair, you can have a reverse balayage to deepen the roots and add dimension to your look, the ends can be highlighted with a platinum blonde or icy blonde balayage. Reverse balayage is a way of transforming an all over or heavily highlighted head of hair into a multi dimensional look by deepening and brightening key focal areas. Popular as you can keep similar tones while re arranging or re balancing them to give a fresh new look by gradually shadowing from a deeper root to lighter sections.
