What is balayage hair?

Balayage is a French word that means to sweep. It is a hair colouring technique where the Stylist will paint the hair to give golden reflects that the Sun naturally gives the hair in Summer. It is one of the most popular colour services requested in salons today and its popularity comes from the fact that it is extremely low maintenance and will grow out naturally.

What is French Balayage?

French Balayage is our professional 2-step technique:

  1. 1

    Blended lightening

Hair is lightened in V shapes, away from the root to provide natural looking regrowth as the colour grows out over time. The lightened pieces are seamlessly blended throughout the hair, with the lightest pieces throughout the mid-lengths and ends.

  2. 2

    Nourishing gloss

The technique uses contrasting toning shades to help neutralise any brassiness post lightening. This helps provide an ultra-natural, soft and subtle result as well as adding gloss and shine to the hair.

Balayage 101

Is balayage right for me?

Balayage is very low maintenance and can give a new dimension to hair by boosting natural reflects. If you have never had your hair coloured before or you are afraid of a drastic change, balayage is most definitely the best colour technique for you. If your hair colour is blonde, brunette, or copper, have coloured or non- coloured hair, it doesn’t matter, the balayage technique can be tailored to everyone. The choice is really between you and your Colourist. Balayage works for all lengths except for very short cropped hair. A balayage is also great for colouring greys because the hairdresser will cover the few grey strands rather than colour the whole head.

How long does a balayage last for?

A key benefit of a balayage is that it grows out very naturally with no harsh root regrowth showing. This means that regrowth is less noticeable, so the service requires lower maintence. However, make sure to always talk to your Colourist about how to keep your balayage looking its best. For example we would recommend you visit the salon every 6-8 weeks for top up toning and lightening services to refresh and revive your colour and enhance the shine of your balayage.
