Hair Strobing

Don’t let the makeup industry have all the strobing fun – it’s time to bring this flattering, bespoke highlighting technique to the hair…

What is hair strobing?

Hair strobing is the must-have look for A/W16. Inspired by makeup, strobing involves lightening the hair where the light naturally catches. Hair colourists consider facial contours, hair style and natural hair shade to create a bespoke look that enhances your best features.

Types of hair strobing

The beauty of strobing is its versatility – whether you have a short bob or long, flowing ringlets, your style is tailored to you. Champagne Shimmer and Mahogany Lights are our A/W favourites…

Champagne Shimmer

The strobing technique looks to emphasise your best features, but there’s more to strobing than making your features pop. Colourists can create the appearance of volume in the hair by placing strategically lightened pieces around the mid-band, adding a look of depth and volume. This makes it perfect for those with fine hair who crave that va-va-voom volume that nature didn’t bless them with!

Play with champagne blonde highlights, placing them around the face to achieve a natural-looking strobe effect – this is the look everyone will be asking for this season. Plus it’s the perfect way to update grown out balayage.

Tired of uniformly brown hair? Strobing isn’t just for blondes – update your brunette look with Mahogany Lights. Give your hair a pop of colour on the lengths and ends with bespoke strobed strands using new Dia Hi-Visibility from L’Oréal Professionnel. This fiery, on-trend hue is a great way to enhance brunette hair colour without changing your look completely. And check out INOA’s Brown Resist palette for even more colour options – including glossy, long-lasting brunette shades that last up to eight and a half weeks*!
